Wow. That is huge news. Overall, I think it's good for the ACC. I like the Orange Bowl (it's such a classic bowl in a PERFECT location, well, almost perfect since the old stadium isn't there anymore). I also feel like that at least secures a spot for the ACC at the table for continuing to be one of the top-tier leagues. A couple of question marks still remain for me though. What about years the Orange Bowl is a semifinal game (if it is)? What happens to the ACC champ if they don't make the playoffs then? Also, it'll be interesting to see if another conference ties-in or if the other spot remains at-large. I pray it remains at-large... I am so SICK of the ACC champ playing a BE team. It's like the booby prize of major college football. Perhaps the thing that shocks me the most though: a 1pm kickoff? ?? What?

If the ACC Champ makes the playoffs and it is not in Miami that year, the ACC Champ will play in one of the other 3 bowl playoff games. Then the Orange Bowl will select the 2nd best ACC team vs the best at-large team to make up for it. I like how they moved it back to New Years Day. Although I wish it would still be a night game. Day games are hard to see on New Years sometimes lol.

Interestingly, the Big East remains untied to any major bowl at this point and it doesn't sound like their expected to any time soon... I wonder how BSU and co. will enjoy that?

The Big East is mortally wounded, IMO. I think they have become the best mid major conference in football. The ACC/Orange Bowl deal has solidified the ACC's standing in regards to the new D1 playoff scene. The only thing missing is for FSU to truly claim its standing as the best team in the ACC. Once that happens then FSU has a good chance of being in the playoffs once every two to three years.

I agree completely. In my opinion, with the recent realignments, the current order conference football significance is as follows:
Major Conferences 1. SEC 2. Pac 12 3. BTN 4. BTV 5. ACC (The ACC could very easily pass the BTV in my opinion, completely depending on the play of 4 schools: FSU, VT, Clemson, and Miami. It's a numbers game really. The BTV has OU and Texas which are recognized national powers, while the ACC has the four teams I mentioned before. On the second level, the BTV has OK State, TCU, and West Virginia; but again the ACC has GT, UNC, NC State, and Virginia. I definitely feel the ACC has greater depth in teams, but the problem is that only half of those teams step up and given year. What the ACC needs to be recognized more is for no fewer than 3/4's to consistently win year in and year out.)
Mid Major Conferences 6. MWC (In upcoming years the BEC may have BSU and SDST and Houston and all, but from top to bottom I just feel that the MWC has a more solid lineup of teams. I'm also not convinced the BEC alliance will hold together for that long.) 7. BEC 8. CUSA
Minor Conferences 9. Sun Belt (I believe the SBC has jumped the MAC largely due to the potential I feel USA, Georgia State, and Texas State bring to the league for the future, and the fact the MAC lost Temple.) 10. MAC 11. WAC??? (For this year at least.)
