First off, let me say that what has come to light about Paterno's actions in the Sandusky affair are really tragic: justified, but tragic in that the decisions he made were so inexcusable. It may be a bit premature, but with the pending NCAA investigation and this latest report, it is undeniable that Paterno's legacy has been forever altered.
What, if any, impact do you feel this has on Bowden's legacy? Obviously Paterno finished ahead of Bobby in total wins (barring NCAA action), but do you feel this changes any of that at all?

You know, I just responded on a different message board to a somewhat similar question. The OP talked about how BB should regain the #1 position because FSU's scandal was no where near as bad as PSU's, etc, etc.
Well, I really cannot get past the impact of what this situation has placed on so many young boys who are now scarred men. I could care less about which university cheated worse. I do care about those young people and hope they get every last dime that is owed to them. Although, I will say, there is really not a price you can put on losing your innocence in such a disgusting manner. Their lives must be an utter train wreck and I would not wish that on anyone.

I agree, this entire situation is so far removed from all the records. Whereas the media deemed the FSU cheating situation to be a scandal (I would hardly call it that, as a scandal implies some sort of coverup), the PSU situation is in a league entirely of its own. It transcends sports or academics and enters into the most disgusting and horrific areas of criminal negligence.
It brings forth so many emotions beyond the obvious anger. On the one hand, there's sort of a sorrow for the tarnishing of such a celebrated man, but then, competing with that is the fully rational realization that it cannot be defended as anything other than justified.
It wasn't too long ago that many people, including myself, were dreaming about an expanded ACC adding ND and PSU (somehow if they could be coerced out of the BTN, unrealistic as that is). Now I wouldn't want to touch that school with a 10 foot long pole. Beyond the victims whom my heart goes out to the most, it's a real tragedy for the current students, alumni, and anyone else with that school that wasn't involved. It's going to be a long, long, long, long, long time before they get through this. In all honesty, if you look at how closely SMU is tied with the football scandal which occurred over 30 years ago, still, to this day... this is infinite times worse, so who knows if there will even ever come a day in which it passes. Certainly not in our lifetimes I would think.
