Obviously, the key trick is figuring out how to spread the word amongst other Warchant users without breaking their rules or burning any bridges over there.
Does anyone have any ideas about how we can reach out and grow this community?

Right now I'm focusing on growing the site organically: aka. word of mouth, facebook, and a couple message boards I know of that aren't quite as strict as Warchant can be. I'm hoping we can grow into a decent-sized group (20+ frequent posters) and then I'm leaving open the possibility of linking us up with a larger national sports site, so long as it continues to be free and is formatted to our preference. I want to wait until we have at least a functioning board though before pursuing that option so that if discussions do start, we'll have a little more leverage.

agreed. Moving forward in this manner is prudent. This mb has a lot of potential and it is set up to be sport specific which I think many of us enjoy. I also think we need to look at moving this site up on the google/yahoo, etc search priority list. Have you done any research with that option?

Definitely. Not yet, the good news though is I do actually have some experience with getting sites hits from search engines. (For a couple years I ran a site about high school football in north Florida and south Georgia.)
I'm going to be working harder on branching this site out the next couple of days after I get done with an important deadline tomorrow.

In the meantime, feel free to discuss recruiting in the appropriate forum. Football for football recruiting, etc. Any news, commitments, updates, thoughts on the subject are welcome. |

Another option is to just do a separate football recruiting forum and leave the rest of recruiting under the sport specific forum. I am thinking this route may be the most user friendly.

I was thinking on how to spread the word to a lot of Noles sites to check it out here, but it will be difficult. The ban hammer there will be in full effect lol.

Hahahaha, exactly. I was actually banned from Warchant over the weekend right after I made this board. I promoted it on the rivals national college baseball board (which has been unmoderated for a couple of years since it became "unofficial") and the Warchant mods saw the post via my rivals "stats" and banned me for it.
Truthfully, at first I was a bit in arms about it, but then I realized it didn't effect me in anyway. I can still read what I've always been able to read over there, I just can't post. But with their new combined mess of a board, I don't view that as a loss.
As for your question, I believe so. There are some little things like that that I'm going to start editing the next couple of days to improve.
Do you know any other Warchant/FSU posters in person that you could tell about this site?

Definitely spread the word where you can, but don't be brash about it on other boards. It would be the same if someone was promoting a similar board to ours on our site. Be respectful, but get the word out with as much tact as possible!

I just want to continue to encourage everyone to tell everyone you know about this site. It's my goal to have at least 20 members by the end of next week, and to add a minimum of 10 more each week.
I feel if we can get 20-30 regular members, this site will become sustainable and start growing on its own. So I encourage you to keep spreading the word, whether its by facebook, or youtube, or any other connections!

Progress being made on the search engine front. Our site has been officially accepted into the Proboards Index, would should help direct any folks browsing around the contents our host site. I also submitted our site to yahoo and google, so we should show up in search results within the next couple of weeks.

I definitely can!
Growth this week has been pretty stagnant, but it's really important to keep up our conversations because if you note at the bottom of the main page, we're beginning to attract for unregistered guests (I surmise from search engines). Turns out, if you search for "Seminole Sports message board" now on google, we're the 5th result that turns up (at least on my computer). That may not be the same for everyone, but it shows we're out there (and a lot sooner than I was expecting I might add).
As for continuing to get the word out, don't forget to tell anyone you know. I thought of a new idea the other day that should result in a significant increase in outreach within the local Tallahassee community starting sometime next week. So just keep it up!

It came up #5 for me as well. Excellent. Let's talk sometime, I will send you my number via email. I can work on the search engine search's as well. There are definitely more people lurking around so it is a matter of time before the momentum will shift for the better.
